Description

Is Melanin Breaker Right for You?

Melanin Breaker was created for stubborn or recurring pigmentation — particularly when simpler brightening products have not given you the improvement you are looking for. This is not our entry-level Chubaba cream. It is a more advanced pigmentation formula built around multiple pigment-targeting ingredients.

Choose Melanin Breaker if: your main concern is persistent melasma, Chubaba or dark patches and you want a more advanced pigmentation treatment. Choose Chubaba Dark Patch Corrector if: you want a simpler, more affordable morning-and-night cream for dark patches and uneven-looking skin tone.

If your skin barrier is irritated, burning, peeling or severely dehydrated, repair your barrier before starting Melanin Breaker.

Why We Formulated Melanin Breaker Differently

Pigmentation is complex and can involve more than one biological process. For Melanin Breaker, we therefore chose not to build the formula around a single brightening ingredient.

The formula combines 4-Butylresorcinol and Phenylethyl Resorcinol (SymWhite® 377) with Tranexamic Acid and Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate. Each plays a different role in supporting a more even-looking complexion.

For skin prone to post-inflammatory pigmentation, irritation also matters. That is why the formula includes barrier-supporting and moisturising ingredients alongside the pigmentation-targeting ingredients.

What’s Inside Melanin Breaker — and Why

The core of this formula combines 4-Butylresorcinol and Phenylethyl Resorcinol (SymWhite® 377), two ingredients recognised for their ability to target key pathways involved in excess pigmentation.

4-Butylresorcinol works by inhibiting tyrosinase and related enzymes involved in melanin synthesis, helping to reduce the formation of excess pigment at its source. Clinical studies have demonstrated its effectiveness in improving various forms of hyperpigmentation, including melasma.

Phenylethyl Resorcinol (SymWhite® 377) provides additional tyrosinase-inhibiting activity while also offering antioxidant properties that help defend the skin against environmental stressors known to contribute to uneven pigmentation.

Tranexamic Acid has gained significant attention in pigmentation research for its ability to help interrupt inflammatory and vascular pathways associated with melasma and persistent discolouration. By targeting these pathways, it may help reduce the signals that contribute to excess melanin production.

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is a stable, oil-soluble form of Vitamin C. In addition to providing antioxidant protection, it supports a brighter, more even-looking complexion while helping to defend the skin against environmental stress.

Barrier Resilience

Managing hyperpigmentation in darker skin tones requires a barrier-first approach because visible irritation can trigger inflammatory responses that contribute to rebound darkening.

To support skin comfort throughout treatment, Melanin Breaker incorporates a barrier-supporting network designed to reinforce the skin’s natural lipid structure. Ceramide NP, Soy Lecithin, Shea Butter and Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride help replenish essential lipids, support moisture retention and strengthen the skin barrier against external stressors.

The formula also includes Glycerin, Propanediol, Allantoin and Tocopherol (Vitamin E), which work together to maintain hydration and support overall skin resilience.

Supporting the skin barrier is particularly important when treating pigmentation-prone skin because irritation and inflammation can contribute to post-inflammatory darkening.

How to Use

Start slowly.

Weeks 1–3: Apply a small amount to clean, dry skin every third night.

If your skin remains comfortable, gradually increase the frequency of use. Do not increase usage if your skin becomes irritated, excessively dry, sensitive or starts peeling.

Use broad-spectrum SPF 50 every morning. Sun exposure can worsen pigmentation and work against the progress you are trying to make.

Do not use Melanin Breaker on an already compromised or irritated skin barrier.

Skin Types and Warnings

Best suited to healthy, tolerant skin with persistent pigmentation.

  • Do not use on a compromised skin barrier.
  • Not suitable for severely dehydrated or very dry skin.
  • Not suitable for sensitive skin.

Questions About Melanin Breaker

What makes Melanin Breaker different from a basic brightening cream?

Melanin Breaker combines several pigmentation-targeting ingredients rather than relying on one brightener alone. The formula includes 4-Butylresorcinol, Tranexamic Acid, SymWhite® 377 and Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, together with ingredients that support hydration and the skin barrier.

Will Melanin Breaker bleach my natural skin colour?

Melanin Breaker is formulated to target the appearance of excess pigmentation and uneven skin tone. It is not intended to bleach or change your natural skin colour.

How long does it take to see results?

Stubborn pigmentation takes time. Some people may notice changes earlier than others, while long-standing melasma and dark patches can require months of consistent treatment.

Take photographs in the same lighting every four weeks rather than judging your skin from day to day. Daily sunscreen is essential because ongoing UV exposure can contribute to pigmentation returning or becoming darker.

How to Do a Patch Test

Performing a patch test is an important step when introducing a new skincare product. It can help you determine whether you may have an adverse reaction.

  1. Choose a small area of skin on your inner forearm or behind your ear.
  2. Apply a small amount of the product and spread it evenly.
  3. Wait 24–48 hours and observe the area for redness, itching, swelling or irritation. If you have a reaction, remove the product immediately and rinse the area with cool water.
  4. If you do not experience an adverse reaction after 24–48 hours, begin use gradually as directed.

Sun Protection
