Our Hydrating Glide Serum was formulated specifically for microneedling and active skin treatments, as a safe, foundational layer for both professional procedures and daily hydration.
The starting point for this formula was clinical observation. I looked at what actually happens to the skin during microneedling, when the barrier is temporarily disrupted and product choice becomes significantly more critical. In that state, the wrong formulation doesn’t just underperform, it can actively contribute to inflammation or unpredictable sensitivity responses.
Why Hydrating Glide Serum was Designed
It provides the slip and glide required for microneedling while simultaneously delivering structured hydration support. To achieve this, I selected a dual-weight hyaluronic acid system. Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid supports deeper hydration pathways within the skin, while high molecular weight hyaluronic acid forms a surface hydration layer that helps reduce water loss and maintain comfort during and after treatment. If the surface isn’t sealed with a larger molecule like high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, the moisture you’ve just introduced to the skin can simply evaporate into the air. By forming that protective surface film, the serum acts like a temporary, artificial barrier while the skin’s own barrier recovers.
I deliberately excluded tyrosinase inhibitors from this Hydrating Glide Serum. While they are effective in brightening-focused formulations, they introduce an unnecessary variable during microneedling. When the skin barrier is open, even well-established actives can behave differently, and I could not justify that level of unpredictability in a treatment-based product for first-time microneedling use.
Some skin types can tolerate a cocktail of actives, but many do not, especially in a sensitised or first-time microneedling context. My skin, however, can tolerate more advanced actives, which allowed me to explore and understand formulation complexity at a deeper level, but that does not translate into what is appropriate for compromised skin conditions.
Hydrating Glide Serum Profile
For the same reason, I excluded alcohol, fragrance, essential oils, and botanical extracts from our Hydrating Glide Serum. These ingredients may have roles in cosmetic formulation, but in a clinical glide system they add irritation potential without improving the core function of the product.
What remains is a simplified, biomimetic hydration system designed for consistency, compatibility, and tolerance across a wide range of skin conditions.
Because of this, the serum is not only suitable for microneedling procedures but also for daily use. It can be applied once or twice daily as part of a hydration-focused routine, particularly for skin that needs barrier support and comfort.
Hyaluronic acid is well documented in dermatological literature for its ability to attract and retain water, support hydration within the stratum corneum, and improve overall skin elasticity and surface resilience.
For best results, a moisturiser should be applied on top to seal in hydration and support barrier function.
