Retinyl palmitate is the mildest member of the Vitamin A (retinoid) family. On the skin it converts slowly, step by step, into the active form your skin uses — so you get the renewing, smoothing and firming benefits of a retinoid without the “retinoid burn”, redness or flaking that stronger versions cause. Retinyl Palmitate is a fat-soluble ester and a precursor to Vitamin A. Once applied to the skin, it undergoes a three-step enzymatic conversion process: first into Retinol, then into Retinaldehyde, and finally into Retinoic Acid (the active form the skin can use).
