Barrier disruption can increase the skin’s exposure to whatever is applied, so what you put on matters more, not less — a reason to keep the formula clean rather than to drive extra actives in. “Advanced” ladders of tyrosinase inhibitors, peptides, vitamin C, retinoids or growth-factor blends aren’t something to reach for when you’re newer to microneedling — they add irritation risk for little upside during the procedure, and are better kept for a separate routine once your skin has settled.

A rare but real caution

Granulomatous reactions are rare but have been reported when topical products — particularly some vitamin C serums — were used with microneedling. It is another reason to keep what goes on freshly needled skin simple and appropriate. PRP and exosomes are professional medical pathways, not the next step in a normal consumer routine; the FDA notes there are currently no FDA-approved exosome products.
